This grey frog lamp is ovoid in body and has a medium length, broad nozzle. The frog pattern is highly stylized. The rear legs are discernible and the flanks consist of checkered fields. The fill hole is in a deep recess. The underside bears a potter's mark. Shape: Roughly round bodied lamp with two concentric grooves on underside forming shallow ring base. Extended nozzle with rounded termination and a central fill hole surrounded by plain, concave disc. Decoration: Relief decoration on top; stylized frog pattern; hatched frog tail and hind legs opposite nozzle; four areas of checkerboard pattern divided by raised ridges. Short ribs at juncture of nozzle and body; top of nozzle decorated with horizontal ridges. Inscriptions: Potter's mark on base. Condition: Intact; minor chips and abrasions; burning around nozzle and wick hole; some encrustation.
